Australian Parent Visas
The current Covid-19 crisis has led to a lot of extended family units with Parents and Children who have Migrated to Australia finding ways to be closer to each other.
The lockdown situation along with the resulting extra time in the home and perhaps greater electronic communication sees Parents looking to be closer to children and grandchildren in Australia. This includes Children looking to have their mum and dad closer to them and, very understandably, in a safer location depending on where they are in the world. Indeed, many parents are enquiring about their Australian Visa options to join their children in Australia.
Emigrate to Australia Department at Taylor Hampton Solicitors offers a range of different Visa options for Parents depending on their age and circumstances to Emigrate to Australia.
Australian Parent visa options:

The first type of Parent Visa is the 103 which is the original offshore Visa.

They have to meet the balance of Family Test meaning that they have equal or more eligible Children in Australia than outside Australia.
It is a permanent Visa that allows your parents to move to Australia on a Permanent Basis.
This Visa type can be applied for by any age group from outside Australia.
The 103 parent Visa has the big advantage of not needing to pay a Large lump sum payment to apply, there is the 30 year wait. Yes, this is correct, at the moment these are taking 30+ years to process!

This visa can be renewed however you will not be able to stay in Australia on this visa for more than 10 years in total. The parent must depart Australia for at least 90 days before re-applying for another Visa. There are no work rights on this visa. The visa fee is AUD$5,000 for a 3 year visa and AUD$10,000 for a 5 year visa. You need to have sponsorship in place before you apply for the visa.
You should note that all the Parent visas require you to meet the Medical and Police Criteria. This means that you would need to have no major Medical or Character issues including criminal convictions or Visa breaches. If you feel that you may have a problem on either of these fronts you should contact us on the details below.
The other important feature that all the Parent Visas will have is the Assurance of Support. This is where your eligible Child who has been settled in Australia for at least 2 years usually is assessed for their income and ability to support you should it become necessary.
There is also a bond that is put up by the child to support the Parent should it be needed. In the past this was $10,000-15,000 and was held for a period of 10 years. This is now assessed in a different manner. Contact us to find out further details: [email protected] or call us on 0044 207 427 5290.
